Registered Trainer Membership

Demonstrate to the public that a training course has met the highest standards for training available.


  • Promote your registered teacher training courses on the YAP website
  •  Your training course will be able to distinguish themselves from lesser quality training courses
  • Your training course will get a listing on the YAP website for students to search (i.e. if they are looking for training courses in your area)
  • Add videos & photos to your YAP profile (for example, you could add a photo album for each teacher training course you run)
  • Advertise for specialist teachers on the YAP website 
  • Offer special discounts or coupons to students who find you on your YAP profile
  • Write articles/ write up on your events, workshops and other things you are doing in your community for the YAP blog and increase your studio profile worldwide
  • Advertise and write for Amrita magazine (our annual publication)

We register two types of courses:

Foundation Courses

A basic training course to qualify people to become yoga teachers.

  • Min 200 hours (180 contact hours)
  • Must be taught by a registered Senior Yoga Teacher (at least 8 years teaching experience)
  • The Senior Yoga Teacher (SYT) lead teacher must be teaching a minimum of 70% of the course
  • The course must be with a single trainer
  • The course must be held in a dedicated learning environment Students being accepted onto a course must have been practicing for a minimum of 2 years
  • Trainer must provide trainee details when they start the course & the details of successful graduates

Professional Advancement Courses (PAC) 

Further training courses to develop the skills and knowledge for yoga teachers. These must be yoga related subjects.

  • Minimum 40 hours (28 contact hours)
  • The principal teacher must be registered with YAP either as SYT or Chartered 2
  • The principal teacher must teach a minimum of 70% of the contact hours
  • The course must be with a single trainer/studio
  • They must have a live Trainer Membership with YAP

Key Points:

  • Can register PACs without a foundation course being registered 
  • Anyone can be accepted on to a PAC course
  • Must provide YAP with a list of graduate details; includes, names, 
  • email address, telephone numbers and their status i.e. yoga teacher, midwife, parent etc
  • They must speak to students about registering with YAP
  • All PAC course dates must be advertised on YAP website 
  • Must display PAC syllabus on the Member Events listing on both YAP website and on their website
  • Syllabus must include breakdown of contact hours and total hours, plus statement stating principal teacher is teaching 70% of the course
  • They must provide us links to their policy documents; terms and conditions, refund policy, code of conduct and grievance policy
  • They must provide a certificate to their students
  • Graduates can either sign up as an Affiliate member or as a Teacher if they have completed a Foundation TTC which meets our standards

If they are already a qualified yoga teacher, they can register as a teacher with YAP and receive full membership. If they are not a yoga teacher, they can register as an Affiliate member with YAP
